Escaping Poverty -  Help je mee?

Corona crisis in Uganda means HUNGER

Poor people in Uganda suffer under a complete lockdown. Society comes to a stand still and people have to stay at home. As most are day laborers,
no work means no food
.
Old traumas from the recent war relive.

In 2017 Schools for Youth started  a project on simple vocational training for vulnerable youth in the slums that were left after the refugee camp was abolished. We supported amongst others the John Fisher School.

Because of this Corona crisis our work comes to a stand still too. We have to help the community of our school to overcome this disaster.
We start a fundraising: Food for the community of John Fisher School!

Schools for Youth: Who we are and what we do

Schools for Youth (SfY) is a foundation that strengthens communities in post-conflict countries. SfY works to increase access to vocational education for young people to learn a trade and helping local businesses to grow with micro-loans. Young people can enter the workforce and earn an income to escape from poverty and its many related social problems.  SfY’s business model incorporates  “built-in” sustainability by working in tandem with both youth labor and business capital and directly working with communities in decision-making.

What is the role of the Schools for Youth Foundation?

 Our goal
The Schools for Youth Foundation (SfY) works in post conflict areas struggling to recover from recent war. SfY supports local vocational education initiatives for young people living in crippling poverty.

What does SfY do?

  • Provide a basic vocational education undertaken by local individuals, enterprises and organizations.
  • Support young people who cannot afford to attend school to receive vocational education in a practical trade.
  • Support local communities and stimulate them to support further education for desperately poor youth.
  • Contact individual and institutional donors to support the work of SfY.

Education is vital
Schools for Youth asserts the view that vcational education is an absolute necessary condition to escape poverty. The community plays a vital role in assisting and supporting youth to gain a basic education and the basics of a practical trade to earn income.

Only local initiatives are sustainable
Schools for Youth stimulates and cooperates with communities, entrepreneurs and schools but does not take over a project.
